What is a treatment like?
Upon arriving, you will be greeted and given a detailed patient information packet. This usually takes from 15-20 minutes to fill out. After reviewing your information, we will talk about your health, your symptoms, and your goals. This initial conversation is one of the most important parts of your treatment because it gives us the accurate picture we need to identify the imbalances present in you at that moment in your life.
In concluding the initial health interview, we then ask you to lie down on the massage table. We take your pulse and look at your tongue which helps us formulate the appropriate diagnosis for you. Next, the soothing music begins; now you are ready for acupuncture. Most of the acupuncture points we will initially use are located below the elbow and knee and extend to the hand and foot. We place the thin, painless needles in specific points that we determine are necessary to achieve your stated health concern and goals. This first appointment is typically 30 minutes longer than follow up appointments, giving us more time to accurately discover your individual health picture and effectively design and implement a treatment strategy for you.
The total time for your first appointment is 90 minutes.
Follow up appointments average 60 minutes.
Do the needles hurt?
The feeling caused by acupuncture is different from person to person. Some people feel a slight pinch, a slight ache or a tingling sensation as the needles are inserted, but most feel no pain. The needles are tiny, often slightly larger than a whisker.
How Many Treatments Will I need?
Often there are positive results in 1-10 sessions. Frequently there is total elimination of the pain or problem; at the least, there is usually a lessening of pain or symptoms. Comparatively, acupuncture is an inexpensive and non-invasive way to overcome most health concerns.
